Random Cuteness

One of the Boy's co-workers sent us digital photos from the Holiday bash:
Yes. I suck.. I'm sorry. It's just that the last week or two have been nuts. Nuts in a "fly by too fast" kinda way.

Let's see. I sold fish at ye Old Irish Bar on Ye Ol' St. Patty's Day. I was supposed to be pouring beer but someone forgot to put me on the schedule. So I ended up in the food area. Not a problem. I was almost always a kitchen kid to begin with when I worked in food service. And I got to hang out with my man for the night. We had fun and we had the place closed down by 12:30pm. Not bad.

Then I got a day to rest and then Pretty Pin Up Queen arrived.. She came all the way from NM to see little ol' me. And the man too. Of course. PPUQ is always a blast. We ran all over the place, up one street and down another discovering that;

A) there are 39198343 boutiques in this town, half of them want to be Urban Outfitters or it's trendy sister Anthropologie and three of them have some style of their own.

B) I hate modern fashion. I just do. The whole pseudo-preggers-'80s exercise craze- meets '70s glamm rock- look does NOTHING for me. Nothing.

As my boy says "If I'm old enough to remember it being cool the first time... it's not now."
So true... Don't get me wrong, I loved my jelly shoes..........when I was eight.. Seriously, it's weird, I really do remember when half this stuff was cool the first time. Ack.

And yes, this season's looks have some bonuses, like highwaisted pants, wide leg pants and a faint '30s feel on the super high end of things. But that's about it.

So in addition to running up and down the street(s) like lunatics, we ate cupcakes and cheese and talked a lot.

I miss PPUQ. I really do. I don't miss ABQ, really, not yet. But I miss my friends there. And it was super cool to have PPUQ here to hang out.

And of course I've been sewing.... Like I'd stop.. .I've finished the Undies below and I'm 90% on the playsuit. No photos of finished either, but here are works in progress:
Detail of the material on the first pair.

Almost done. Not bad for a first attempt.
Playsuit material.

I'm working through my "almost done" pile. Putting in Zippers and hems and adding buttons.

Then... I don't know... Probably another play suit... Or this:

It's not sized for stretch, but i found some uber inexpensive heavy knit with a little bit of stretch in Red/Black/Zebra and Black and Silver Fleck. All for $1.00 a yard.. Hmmm.....

Random Shoe Drool

all between $19.99 And $29.99, all knock offs, all available either @ gojane.com or cutesyshoes.com

I Lied...

Green Velvet dress has been back-burner-ed in favor of:

Playsuit!! With lapels and dummy pocket modifications. And maybe another inch on those shorts...

And....

Undies! In a variety of colors, and even a pair of garter undies...

Why the sudden change? Well it's been beautiful here, in the 70s and low 80s, so I'm not exactly feelin' like cuttin' and sewin' yards of crush velvet right now. And on top of that, I need to really get my crap together about the whole Retro-Fitted thing and get a product line together an right now it's gonna be "simple" stuff that's not available a million places.

let's face it, everyone and their monkey's ugly uncle has a pencil skirt and a crap ton of leopard printed stuff, sooo gonna go for the other end of the spectrum.

Woot!

Pictures... I promise...

Now it's off to sew...

Dance Purse....

I kept getting asked about my purse last night. Which I'll photograph and edit this post with shortly, but it was a take off on this:

Mine had a frame, but it was more or less the same thing. This particular one is, I believe, a "bride's purse". But of the same era.

My beautiful friend The Outlaw has the only actual one I've ever been able to see an play with in person. They are small, usually ornate clutches with a strap running from top to bottom over vertically along one side. The strap is meant for you to slide your hand through so that you can hold onto your purse and dance at the same time, in theory. Or so that you can hold your bag and keep your hand mostly free. Also to put your gloves through when you aren't using them.

I love them. And since I hate to carry around a purse all the time, especially at shows, this works perfectly.
I'll post a pic of mine soon. It's tiny, I want to make a few more, more like the one in the photo. I'll post those too..

Narf....

Dress is done. Wore it last night, along with the newly made "dance purse" and the $10 shoes from Goody Two Shoes. Photos to follow.

Went to see Lunatic Fringe Burlesque last night with Kitchen God's Wife. We had fun, she'd never been to a show before!! Yay for Burlesque Newbies!!! Kitten Deville was awesome , actually all the girls were awesome, but seeing Kitten in person and getting her autograph afterwards was amazing!!!

I'm wandering around aimlessly right now, trying to decide if I want to start a new project, or if I want to eat chicken salad and read more of this. I'm halfway through it right now, and much like American Gods, I can't put it down. And I want Jerk Chicken and saffron rice every time I start reading it.... I was reading the other night in FADO, waiting for BB and the woman next to me actually knew what i was reading. She looked like about the last person on earth who'd be reading Neil Gaiman books, but sure enough. She knew that one and American Gods and even Good Omens, which I'm happy to see is back in publication.

I'm thinking that reading is going to lose out, probably to AMC's Mad Men, and a shower and some chicken salad....

But I digress... I think this is the next project....

The view with the Hood, in green crush velvet.
It's almost too warm to wear it, but the weather is so weird here that it could snow in April. And of course if it works well. I'll make one or two to sell.

This....

Out of peach lining material and black sheer crepe-ish material. The view with the flowers. Only no flowers...

Ahhh... The Power of Shoes...

As if one needed an excuse to buy shoes... And on Delias.com of all places.
At $34, I can't say they are unreasonable.
But I can't justify it just yet.
Maybe after that beer pouring shift at Ye Ol Irish Dive.

Or maybe when my other tax return comes in. Mmm, shoes.
